Neolithic Britain: the great stone circles
Stonehenge gets the headlines. Avebury, Callanish and Castlerigg deserve them.
Britain has more Neolithic stone circles per square mile than anywhere on earth — perhaps a thousand recorded sites, of which fifty or so are major. Stonehenge is famous; the others are quieter, often more accessible, and just as old.
