Hadrian's Wall weekend

The forts of the central sector: Housesteads, Vindolanda, Birdoswald.

Hadrian's Wall ran 73 miles across northern England from 122 AD. The central sector — between Once Brewed and Birdoswald — contains the best-preserved fort masonry. A weekend covers Vindolanda's ongoing dig, Housesteads (the most complete Roman fort in Britain), the sycamore-gap stretch of curtain wall, and Birdoswald near Greenhead.
