Details Rectangular pillar topped by an orb with finial and draping swags; on the front face of the orb is a small shield bearing the dates 1914/1919. The front face of the pillar has a carving of two rifles crossing, backed by leaves. This stands atop a square base; the front face bears the inscription: To the Glory of God / AND IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF / THE MEN FROM THIS PARISH WHO FELL / IN THE GREAT WAR / (7 names, with dates of death), and the back face: To the Glory of God / AND IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF / THE MEN FROM THIS PARISH WHO FELL / IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR / 1939-1945 / (3 names, with dates of death). This rests on another plinth, reading - front: "Be thou faithful unto death.", and back: "Percy F Smith / Southend". The whole rests on a stone slab. This List entry has been amended to add the source for War Memorials Online. This source was not used in the compilation of this List entry but is added here as a guide for further reading, 30 January 2018.
