Britain's best canal walks in a day
Towpaths through industrial heritage.
Britain has 2,000 miles of canal, all maintained by the Canal & River Trust and open as towpaths for walking and cycling. The most scenic stretches: the Llangollen Canal aqueduct at Pontcysyllte (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Caen Hill lock flight in Wiltshire, Bingley Five-Rise on the Leeds & Liverpool, the Anderton Boat Lift, and the central Birmingham canals.
