Details This List entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 03/01/2017 SJ 98 SW, 3/105 POTT SHRIGLEY C.P., SIMPSON LANE, Bridge No.17 over canal, north of Mitchell Fold (Formerly listed as: Bridge No.18 over canal, north of Mitchelfold) II Canal bridge: c.1830 by William Crosley for Macclesfield Canal Company. Hammer-dressed sandstone with flat wooden centre. 2 stone piers with square pilasters away from Canal, with chamfered coping at road level and segmental coping above plain parapet. The edges are slotted to carry removable, wooden roadway, the existing one being a C20 replacement. Cobbled ramp leads from towpath to north-east corner. There is an early C20, diamond-shaped cast-iron sign recording wading restrictions at one corner and a similar bridge, No.14 (q.v.) survives in Poynton.
