Details A First World War memorial erected in 1921, with later additions for the Second World War. MATERIALS: constructed from pink granite. DESCRIPTION: the memorial is in the form of an obelisk on a pedestal with a bevelled top, both of polished pink granite. The pedestal sits on a dressed stone plinth of unpolished pink granite with a chamfered edge. The base of the memorial is rough-hewn pink granite. There are engraved and gilded inscriptions on three sides of the monument which read as follows: North-west face; Obelisk: IN/ HONOUR/ OF/ THOSE WHO/ FELL FOR/ LIBERTY IN/ THE/ GREAT WAR/ 1914-1918 Pedestal: (four names; First World War) North-east face; Obelisk: 1939-45 (two names) Pedestal: (two names; First World War) South-west face; Obelisk: 1939-45 (two names) Pedestal: (two names; First World War)
