British chalk hill figures

Eleven figures cut into chalk hillsides, ranging from prehistoric to Victorian curios.

The white horse of Uffington is the oldest chalk hill figure in Britain — possibly 3,000 years old. The Long Man of Wilmington and Cerne Abbas Giant join it; the rest are mostly Georgian and Victorian additions. Together they tell a strange parallel story to the official heritage record.
