Details ULVERSTON SD2878 626-1/3/65 MARKET PLACE War Memorial GV II War memorial. Unveiled 1921. Designed by Professor WG Collingwood. Sandstone ashlar, from Birchover quarries in Derbyshire. Square plan, on a stepped base and with thin diagonal buttresses. Above inscribed bronze plaques on each face are crocketed gables with blind tracery decoration. The cross head is carried on a column of clustered shafts with a foliated capital. (Rimmer, Revd JS: The Story of Ulverston: Ulverston: 1925-: 5). Listing NGR: SD2857278350 This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 3 February 2017.
