Details MATERIALS: Portland stone ashlar. PLAN: the memorial stands adjacent to the Recreation Ground and is in the form of an octagonal cross with moulded base, arms and head, tapering towards the top and overlaid with a bronze sword. The cross stands on a triple-stepped, octagonal base which itself stands on an octagonal plinth inscribed with: ‘IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WARS 1914-1918 AND 1939-1945’, and the names of the fallen. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: the memorial is enclosed by a low wall of squared, coursed rubble stone laid out as an octagon with one open side which is flanked by octagonal piers with bases and moulded ashlar caps. This List entry has been amended to add the source for War Memorials Online. This source was not used in the compilation of this List entry but is added here as a guide for further reading, 27 February 2017.
