Details A war memorial cross of 1919 date. MATERIALS: of dressed stone. DESCRIPTION: the war memorial is a cross on a square base and sloping square plinth with recessed panels to each face. The tapering square shaft is surmounted by a boxed Latin cross. The front (east) face of the plinth reads: IN MEMORY OF THE FIVE/ PARISHIONERS WHO FELL, / AND IN HONOUR / OF THE 78 WHO FROM THIS / PARISH SERVED IN THE / GREAT WAR 1914 β 1919. The base below is inscribed: ERECTED BY THE PEOPLE OF LYDEARD S. LAWRENCE, 1919. The south face of the plinth is inscribed: SERVED IN / THE GREAT WAR / 78.The west has a recessed panel reads: IN MEMORY OF THE THREE / PARISHIONERS WHO FELL / AND IN HONOUR OF THE/ FIFTY THREE WHO FROM / THIS PARISH SERVED IN THE/ WORLD WAR 1939 - 1945/ (NAMES). The north face is inscribed: (NAMES). This List entry has been amended to add the source for War Memorials Online.
