Details First World War memorial, with later additions for other conflicts. Erected between 1919 and 1939. Architect unknown. MATERIALS: Carved in marble DESCRIPTION: The war memorial at Longham comprises a simple obelisk mounted on top of a square plinth. The plinth stands on top of a single marble step and the whole stands on a step of a contrasting stone. The E face of the plinth is inscribed TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN MEMORY OF / (NAMES) / WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1918. / ERECTED BY THE PARISHONERS. The inscription on the W face reads AND ALL / THOSE WHO HAVE / FALLEN IN OTHER / CONFLICTS and has clearly been added later. This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 23 November 2017.
