Details First and Second World War memorial. Erected 1920 with the names of the fallen of the Second World War added after 1945. MATERIALS: carved from stone. DESCRIPTION: the war memorial stands in the churchyard of All Saints’ Church. It is situated upon a mound covered by rubble-stone paving, which is approached via stone steps at the SW of the churchyard. In addition there is a path and wrought-iron gateway leading from the adjacent Watford Road. The memorial comprises a Latin cross set upon a capital at the head of a tapering octagonal shaft with a moulded base. It stands upon a moulded octagonal plinth and two-tier stepped base. On the base is the inscription: REMEMBER/ BEFORE GOD/ THOSE FROM/ THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ FOR THEIR COUNTRY 1914-1918. The names of the fallen of the First and Second World Wars are inscribed onto bronze plaques set into the sides of the plinth. This List entry has been amended to add the source for War Memorials Online. This source was not used in the compilation of this List entry but is added here as a guide for further reading, 12 January 2017.
