Details LEEDS SE2735 ST MICHAEL'S ROAD, Headingley 714-1/23/823 (North side) War Memorial GV II First World War memorial. c1920. Designed by Sidney Kitson. White Portland stone with bronze decorative motifs. Stepped base, square 2-stage plinth with inscriptions surmounted by obelisk with cross on S side. Inscriptions: on the W side 'THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE', on the N side: 'TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEN OF HEADINGLEY WHO FELL IN THE WAR 1914'. A plaque on each side has lists of names. The lower plinth has attached bronze wreaths and plaques, some missing. Railings recently added to steps. (Victorian Society Walk No.6: 17). Listing NGR: SE2799335997 This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 31 January 2017.
