Details LEEDS SE23SW LAWNS LANE, Farnley 714-1/9/687 (West side) War Memorial II War memorial. c1920. Portland stone. Square base, approx 3m high, a stepped and tapering shaft with rectangular panels carrying inscriptions and figures in relief. On the E face an inscription: 'TO THE MEN/ OF FARNLEY/ ALL HONOUR/ GIVE TO THOSE/ WHO NOBLY/ STRIVING/ NOBLY FELL/ THAT WE/ MIGHT/ LIVE/ 1914.1918'; figures of old man with child above. On the N and S sides panels with 64 names, the panels above depicting a sailor with battleship in background, and a woman with child and dog standing in front of a wall, marching soldiers beyond. Listing NGR: SE2487331966 This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 1 February 2017.
