Details ELLAND HULLEN EDGE ROAD SE 102209 2/49 War Memorial, The Park II Bronze statue of soldier in First World War trenchkit by F. W. Doyle Jones c.1922. Stands on white granite plinth approached by 3 steps. Inscribed on front 'ERECTED TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE MEN OF ELLAND WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1919 'THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE' also added names of 1939 - 1945 victims. A remarkably good statue imaginatively sited overlooking the Calder Valley below Hullen Edge. Listing NGR: SE1021020915 This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 31 January 2017.
