Category B Date Added 05/02/1971 Local Authority East Lothian Planning Authority East Lothian Parish Tranent NGR NT 39485 73821 Coordinates 339485, 673821 — Archibald Ritchie, sculptor, 1853, signed and dated. Grey ashlar monument comprised of base, pedestal and obelisk, sited to N of Bankton House. Rock-worked base course to base; sleepy lion couchant to each of 4 angle buttresses (2 alternating poses). Corniced, channelled pedestal with moulded and inscribed panels to each face. — The monument was erected by public subscription. The panels each bear an inscription, including 2 poetical verses.
