Details A First World War memorial, erected in 1921, altered after the Second World War. MATERIALS: granite. DESCRIPTION: the memorial takes the form of a Celtic wheel cross with interlace details, on a tapering, rough-faced shaft. The shaft stands directly on a three-stepped base which carries inscriptions in black lettering: TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN UNDYING MEMORY OF THE / FOLLOWING MEN FROM THIS PARISH / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY / IN THE / GREAT WAR 1914 – 1919; followed by the names of those who lost their lives. An area of granite paving approached by two steps surrounds the memorial. At the foot of the memorial, on the granite paving, lies a stone tablet carved in the shape of a scroll, inscribed with the dates 1939-1945 and the names of the men of Callington who died during the Second World War.
