Step into the whispering woodland and enjoy views across the heathland on the outskirts of Tunbridge Wells. Watch for Dartford Warblers, Woodlark and Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers, or spend a quiet moment at the pond. ? ? Set in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near to Royal Tunbridge Wells, there have been some big changes at Broadwater Warren. Heathland and woodland restoration is returning Broadwater to its historic habitat of centuries ago. This reserve is returning to a wildlife-rich mosaic of heathland and native woodland with scrubby woodland margins, scattered stands of pines and rare woodland mire. Threatened bird species like Woodlark and Nightjar have returned to Broadwater, along with Adders, bumblebees and butterflies. New vistas have been opened up across the landscape, offering picnic spots with a serious view. The pond is now a haven for dragonflies and is often visited by a Kingfisher and heron. The woodlands are being managed for vulnerable species like Marsh Tit and Dormouse. 30 spaces Accessed on Broadwater Forest Lane- a rural two-lane road with no pavement on either side. No kerbs or steps and the gate onto the All-Ability Trail is suitable for wheelchairs and buggies. The white Nature trail is 1.5 miles (approx 40 minutes) taking in heathland, woodland and the decoy pond. The first 200m is flat, and hard-surfaced. After that the trail is on an unsurfaced track.
