Details MATERIALS: rough-hewn grey granite. DESCRIPTION: Antingham War Memorial is located in the churchyard of St Mary’s Church, Church Lane, Antingham, North Norfolk. It is prominently situated by the path leading to the church. It comprises a wheel-head cross on a plinth which has a smooth face to the front bearing inscriptions in leaded lettering. The Second World War dedication is on a separate step placed at the front foot of the cross. Four First World War names and two Second World War names are written on the memorial. The First World War names includes a Military Cross winner who was the Rector’s son, and to whom an oak reredos was dedicated inside the church in 1924. The inscription on the plinth is in leaded lettering and reads: LEST WE FORGET/ TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE/ MEN OF ANTINGHAM/ WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1919/ FOR ENGLAND, HOME, AND FREEDOM / (NAMES) / THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE. The Second World War inscription reads: 1939 – 1945/ (NAMES)/ WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.
