New Lanark and the Clyde Valley
A UNESCO World Heritage mill village, riverside walks and ruined castles along the River Clyde in South Lanarkshire.
New Lanark, the mill village founded in 1785 by David Dale on the River Clyde, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site reached along the Clyde Walkway from Glasgow. Nearby, Corra Castle overlooks the Falls of Clyde and Craignethan Castle stands above the River Nethan, while the restored Tower of Hallbar and the ruined Lanark Castle, birthplace of the royal burgh, add further layers of history. St Kentigern's Church and the mining village of Leadhills, with its Scots Mining Company House, complete a trail through South Lanarkshire.
