Britain's surviving Art Deco cinemas

The few 1930s super-cinemas still in their original form.

British cinema-going peaked in 1946 with 1.6 billion admissions. Most of the 1930s Art Deco super-cinemas have been demolished or converted; a handful survive — the Castle Cinema (Homerton), the Phoenix (East Finchley), the Plaza in Stockport, the Picture House (Edinburgh), Tyneside Cinema (Newcastle). They are working time-capsules.
