Details Portland stone plinth, resting on a square base. On this in turn rests a smaller square plinth topping out to a pyramid shape. The front of the upper section bears a carving of a standing white horse. The front on the main plinth bears the following inscription in black lettering: THIS MEMORIAL / IS DEDICATED TO / THE GLORIOUS MEMORY / OF THE OLD SCHOLARS OF / THE WHITEHORSE ROAD / COUNCIL SCHOOL / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR / THEIR KING AND COUNTRY / IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914 - 1919. Below this in lower case is the quote "Immortal, though no more; though fallen, great" from Lord Byron's poem 'Childe Harold's Pilgrimage'. This List entry has been amended to add the source for War Memorials Online. This source was not used in the compilation of this List entry but is added here as a guide for further reading, 3 March 2017. This list entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 07/03/2017
