Details TF 19 SE TEALBY TEALBY THORPE LANE (east side) 7/51 Watermill and attached outhouse (formerly 1.11.66 listed as Tealby Thorpe Water G.V. II* Mill, Tealby Thorpe) Watermill. C17. c1760, C19. Coursed ironstone rubble, red brick, pantile roof with decorated eaves. 3 storey, 4 irregular bay front with long, single storey outhouse at right angles dividing the 2 bays to the left from the other bays. 2 mid C19 bays to left with large opening with 3 centred head containing waterwheel and millrace. Above are 2 openings with segmental heads, that to the left a sliding sash with glazing bars, that to the right with wooden shutters. 2 shuttered openings above. Above the outhouse roof is a sliding sash with wood lintel. C17 rubble wall up to first floor level to right of outhouse with large doorway with wooden lintel and plank stable doors. Early C19 red brick above. Loading platform in front of doorway has several re-used mill-stones embedded in it. Interior machinery intact and in good working condition. Machinery design of c1760 with combined use of timber and iron. Ground floor has the main waterwheel with oak axle, cast iron rim (renewed in 1967), iron hub, and wood and iron buckets. Both the 2 valves are in working order. Pit wheel, mounted on main waterwheel axle drives the bevel gear on the vertical shaft. The spur wheel, with wooden spurs and iron rim and cogs drives the stone nuts with wood teeth. On the grinding floor above are 2 sets of grinding stones. To the left, the French Burr stones for flour, to the right, Derbyshire Greystones for animal food. Grain from hoppers on top floor has access to shoe vibrated by damsel. Shute for meal to descend to ground floor. Kibbling mill and oat roller also on first floor. Top floor for drying and storing corn with pulleys
