Details WARGRAVE WARGRAVE HILL SU 77 NE (north side) 2/3 Wargrave Manor 26.1.67 II Large country house in landscaped park. Late C18 altered C19 and C20. Painted stucco, moulded chamfered quoins, moulding over second floor windows, hipped slate roof with several chimneys. Main block 3 storeys, wings 2 storeys. East front:main block has central segmental bay the whole height with hipped conical roof, 3 sash windows with glazing bars, flanked by single bays with similar windows: all windows have architrave surrounds, ground floor windows with C19 lights. This section has a Doric verandah with coupled columns supporting entablature across the whole front. Flanking wings have 2 upper sash windows and Venetian windows on ground floor, all with glazing bars. South front: C1860, has 5 bays repeating the design, central porch of angle pilasters supporting entablature and blocking course, arched central opening with plain double door and radiating fanlight. The west front has a large semi-circular terrace in front added C19, and has fine views over the Thames river valley. V.C.H. Vol.III. p.191 (Berkshire) p.258.
