Details WOLVERHAMPTON SO9198NW EXCHANGE STREET 895-1/11/221 (East side) War Memorial to SW of St Peter's Church, Lich Gates GV II War memorial. Unveiled 1922. Sandstone ashlar. Tall structure with square base on 2 round steps; plinth has weathered capping with recessed squat pinnacles with foliated caps, raised lettering in sunk bands; shaft has rebated angles with fillets; base has town arms to front, wreathed cartouches to returns; upper niches have figures of St George to front, soldier and pilot to returns and sailor to rear; stepped cap. A good example with figure of pilot, a rare feature. Listing NGR: SO9138898765 This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 18 January 2017.
