Details A First and Second World War memorial, unveiled in 1919. MATERIAL: granite. DESCRIPTION: the memorial consists of a wheel cross and tapering shaft, decorated with a raised-stone longsword, surmounted on a three-tiered base and surrounded by a set of metal railings to the north. The dedication on the front (north) face of the top tier reads, in raised black lettering, 'TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN GRATEFUL/ MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/ WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES FOR KING/ AND COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1919, with the fourteen names of those who died during the First World War on the middle tier. The bottom tier reads, 'GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS THAT/ A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS'. The west faces reads 1939-1945 and the names of four men who died during the Second World War. This List entry has been amended to add the source for War Memorials Online.
