The tapered body of the obelisk has two stages, with a broader lower part. There is a chamfered band at the juncture between these two parts. The upper body is inscribed : ‘ERECTED / IN PROUD AND / LOVING MEMORY / OF THE MEN FROM / THIS PARISH WHO / FELL IN THE GREAT / WAR / 1914 – 1918’. Names of the fallen are inscribed on the lower body of the obelisk and on its flanks. The stepped plinth has the following words on the upper step: ‘FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH FOR KING AND COUNTRY’. The names of the fallen from the Second World War are inscribed on a separate granite plaque which stands in front of the obelisk.
