Details KNOTTINGLEY CHAPEL STREET SE52SW (west side) 6/32 War Memorial GV - II War memorial. Probably 1920's. Rock-faced white granite, with bronze statue. Square in section, consisting of a pillar raised on a pedestal of 4 stepped blocks each higher than the one below. The 3rd and 4th have lettered panels in the front and sides:- "IN GLORIOUS AND EVERLASTING MEMORY OF THE MEN OF KNOTTINGLEY WHO DIED IN THE GREAT WARS 1914-1918 1939-1945" on the front of the lower, and names on the sides; and names on all 3 sides of the upper. The pillar has a moulded cap surmounted by a statue of a flying angel (supported with one foot on a ball), with flowing dress, outspread wings, and arms holding aloft a wreath and a trump. Listing NGR: SE5000223996 This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 1 February 2017.
