Details SK 18 SE PARISH OF HOPE CASTLETON ROAD 7/75 (North Side) War Memorial II GV War memorial. c1920. Gritstone ashlar and rock faced gritstone. Cenotaph raised on two stone steps. Name panels on each face. South face inscribed PRO PATRIA with cornice and wreath above. Set within a raised enclosure with low rock faced walls and chamfered copings. Listed for group value only. Listing NGR: SK1734483447 This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 4 September 2017. History
The sandstone memorial is dedicated to the inhabitants of Hope, Aston, Thornhill, Brough and Shatton, that died during the First and Second World Wars. The memorial has been Grade II listed since 24 September, 1984.
