Details The memorial stands next to St Matthew’s Church, St Matthew Street. Built of Portland stone, it comprises a plain bronze Latin cross on a stone orb set on a triangular-sectioned stone shaft. That rises from a triangular plinth standing on a circular base. On the front face of the shaft is a carved wreath encircling the inscription 1914/ 1919 in low relief. An inscription on the front face of the plinth reads + IN THANKFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THE MEN/ OF THIS PARISH AND CONGREGATION/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY/ IN THE GREAT WAR (NAMES)/ R.I.P. This List entry has been amended to add the source for War Memorials Register. This source was not used in the compilation of this List entry but is added here as a guide for further reading, 25 July 2017.
