Details This list entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 03/04/2014 529/0/10003 EAST MARKHAM, HIGH STREET, War Memorial 26-JUN-01 GV II War memorial, unveiled Tuesday 21st September 1920 by Mr W. Chapman J.P. (Chairman of East Markham Parish Council), dedicated by Reverend J. O. Crosse (Vicar of East Markham), designed and made by Sharpe & Hoggard (of Retford). Paid for by Mr Henry Cowlishaw and erected on land donated by Mrs Drinkwater. Polished pink granite. Square plan with four lower steps all rock-faced. Above a tapering base, with double chamfered plinths, inscribed with the names of those who fell in the Great War, the Second World War and the Korean War. Moulded cap surmounted by tall broken Doric column – the broken column is a deliberate feature (representing the lives cut short), with the column top being placed on the lower corner step. Listing NGR: SK7391273310 This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register.
