Construction began in March 1970 by John Laing & Son Ltd, with the contract price agreed at £601,268 – with the additional cost of the site and other fees this brought the total cost of the new building to £800,000. IE Symons & Partners were the Quantity Surveyors, and beneath the stone was placed a copper time capsule.
