Category C Date Added 25/11/1980 Local Authority Aberdeenshire Planning Authority Aberdeenshire Parish Tarland NGR NJ 48138 04219 Coordinates 348138, 804219 β 1824. Single span bridge running E-W. Squared, grey granite courses with arch rings. Coped parapet terminating in square piers with shallow pyramidal caps. β 6 different masons' marks visible on voussoirs. The bridge is a well built, solid stone structure typical of the improvement period of the late 18th to mid 19th century. Marking the W entrance to the village, the bridge carries the road over the Whitely Burn in a straight line towards the main square. The bridge was the first stage of a land draining and improvement scheme by the Cromar estate culminating with the draining of the great lake to the E of the village in 1840. Similar in design to Coull bridge (see separate listing).
