Details SD 63 NE 8/2 AIGHTON, BAILEY & CHAIGLEY Hurst Green AVENUE ROAD Boer War Memorial on west side of the green GV II Boer War memorial, early C20. Sandstone. Base of square plan with four steps, supporting a Celtic cross with interlace designs on two faces and vine scroll ornament on the sides. A brass plate reads: 'This Cross Commemorates the services of Frederick Sleigh, first Earl Roberts, K.G.V.C. and his companions in arms, the Soldiers and Sailors of the Empire, who fought in South Africa 1899 - 1902'. Listing NGR: SD6851037924 This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 2 February 2017.
