Heritage listing

Details ROYAL VICTORIA PARK 656-1/30/1429 Arch to the west of Gravel Walk approx 60m south of No.18 Brock Street GV II Arch over pedestrian access to Victoria Park (possibly to former gate). c1837 with later embellishment. Semicircular wrought iron arch supported at each side by paired spearhead railings horizontally linked to arch at three points. Ball at apex has slender finial flanked by fine wrought iron scrolls attached by rings to the arch. Vertical to east side double-paired railings and swept support to base. The scrollwork of the overthrow is pre-Georgian in inspiration and probably relates to a later campaign of embellishment. Victoria Park was laid out in 1830 on the former Barton Fields, an area of common land and was opened by the Duchess of Kent with her daughter, Princess Victoria, on October 23rd 1830. It was the country's first municipal park. Listing NGR: ST7455765265 Legacy The contents of this record have been generated from a legacy data system. Legacy System number: 510144 Legacy System: LBS
