A weekend in York
Roman walls, Viking streets, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe — all in two square miles.
York has the densest concentration of historic streets in Britain. The Romans walled it; the Vikings settled it; the Normans built the Minster on top. The city walls are the longest in England and you can walk them in two hours. The Shambles is one of the best-preserved medieval streets in Europe. A weekend is enough.
