Tudor palaces & gardens
The royal residences of Henry VIII, then and now.
Henry VIII inherited fifty royal palaces and built over twenty more during his reign. Most are gone — Nonsuch, Whitehall, Greenwich — but four major Tudor palaces survive: Hampton Court (richly preserved with the king's own kitchens and tennis court), the Tower of London (still officially a royal palace), Windsor Castle (continuously occupied since the 12th century), and St James's Palace (off-limits but visible). Together they make a one-week London-centred tour.
