Historic Lincolnshire: Lincoln, Stamford and beyond

Cathedral city, market towns and stately homes across historic Lincolnshire, from Lincoln to Stamford.

Lincoln Cathedral, seat of the bishop of Lincoln, rises above Lincoln Castle, one of only two English castles built with two mottes, and the medieval Bishop's Palace nearby. Tattershall Castle, in National Trust care since 1925, and Woolsthorpe Manor, birthplace of Sir Isaac Newton and home to his famous apple tree, lie further into the county. Stamford's stone buildings and medieval churches, Gainsborough Old Hall's five-hundred-year-old manor house, Doddington Hall, St Wulfram's Church in Grantham, and the 1390 Boston Guildhall complete the trail.
