Castles of mid-Wales

Powis Castle, seat of the Herbert family, is known for its formal terraced gardens. Montgomery Castle guarded the Welsh Marches, while Dolforwyn Castle was built by Llywelyn ap Gruffudd and Castell y Bere by Llywelyn the Great, both native Welsh strongholds.
