English sparkling wine has overtaken champagne in some blind tastings; the chalk soils of Sussex and Kent are the same geology as Champagne, just slightly cooler. These are the dozen vineyards open to visitors with year-round tasting rooms — most are clustered around Lewes, Tunbridge Wells, and the South Downs.
