Victorian piers: a seaside survey
Brighton, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Cromer — the surviving pleasure piers.
Britain once had 100 pleasure piers; about 55 survive. The longest is Southend (1.34 miles); the most-photographed are Brighton's Palace Pier and Blackpool's three; the most architecturally important is the Grade II*-listed Clevedon. This is a tour of twelve, in a working seaside-trip order.
