Castles of the Ayrshire coast
Ruined strongholds and clifftop towers strung along the South and North Ayrshire coastline.
Culzean Castle looks out over the Firth of Clyde near Maybole, while Dunure Castle stands ruined on a rocky promontory above its old harbour a few miles along the coast. Further south, Greenan Castle perches on a sea cliff outside Ayr, and Turnberry Castle's fragmentary ruin sits on the coast near Maybole. The trail continues north to Portencross, Dundonald, Hunterston and Eglinton, castles and towers spread across South and North Ayrshire.
