Sir Edwin Lutyens (1869–1944) is the most prolific British country-house architect of the 20th century. He designed New Delhi, the Cenotaph, Castle Drogo, the Thiepval Memorial, and the original Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral (Catholic) crypt. His Surrey country houses with Gertrude Jekyll established the Arts and Crafts country-house ideal.
