Norman architecture architecture in Britain
Norman architecture (c.1066β1180) is the round-arched Romanesque style brought by the Norman Conquest. Massive cylindrical columns, simple geometric ornament, semicircular arches and immense thick walls characterise the great cathedrals (Durham, Norwich, Ely, Peterborough) and the keep castles of the early Norman period. The style was superseded by pointed-arch Gothic from around 1180.
